Neighbourhood Development
Community Waitākere works at a neighbourhood level enabling residents, supporting local hubs, and working with other organisations to implement community aspirations. Our aim is to build a sense of community, local pride, identity and connection, contributing to a thriving, sustainable, and resilient West Auckland.
We assist communities to work with stakeholders and local government. We support schools to be gateways of community building. We work to uplift marae and community cooperation.
In our neighbourhood placemaking, we always aim to work with others and to respond to and support local aspiration. As a result, we are often navigating new relationships and ways of working, trialing approaches and co-designing as we go.
We know that before anything meaningful can happen, the first priority is to grow relationships and nurture partnerships. This approach takes time because communities and partnerships are created through trust. A natural cornerstone of this important mahi is centered around building and honouring relationships.
The below are areas we are actively working in West Auckland neighbourhood development.
